Research Grant RFP
Research Requests for Funding
Attention Nursery and Landscape Researchers
The Virginia Nursery & Landscape Association Horticultural Research Foundation (501(c)((3) is soliciting Requests for Funding for horticultural research. The research proposal must be original and deal with the growth, cultivation, harvest, diseases or pests of plants of horticultural interest, best management practices for nurseries, garden centers, landscape installation/maintenance, water recycling/conservation, new equipment technologies, etc. Funding is generally available in amounts ranging from $500 to $5,000 with most grants in the $1,000 to $3,000 range. Research grants will be awarded at our annual meeting during the MANTS trade show and funds will be dispersed by January 30, if reports from previous research grants are current.
The proposals should:
• State clearly the purpose of the research including any hoped for benefits to the nursery trade
• Explain the need for this particular work in the light of any prior work
• List the materials and methods that will be used
• Show specifically how the funds will be used
It is required that recipients of funding in prior years submit results, or progress reports, to the VNLA Research Committee before making further requests for funding. Progress and final reports will be published in the VNLA Newsletter over the course of time that this program has been active, we have funded in excess of $400,000 in original research from donations and income from our $669,000 research endowment. We are an active state association with an on-going fundraising program, which should further enhance our ability to support good research in the years to come. It is the policy of the Virginia Nursery & Landscape Association that no overhead money be taken from funds donated for research projects. It is permissible to deposit these funds into various accounts that have been established for nursery research. Please email your request to chrisbjr@lancasterfarms.com by December 5, 2017
