Job Title: Delivery Driver

Job Type: Part-time to Full-time

We are looking for a delivery truck driver to join our team. Job responsibilities will include driving box trucks and a gooseneck trailer and delivering plants from our nursery to various locations in Virginia, as well as loading and unloading plants from the delivery vehicles. This job will also potentially include equipment maintenance on-site at the nursery.

Our ideal employee is professional, able to communicate with our nursery team and clients, has a flexible schedule and works well in both team and individual settings.

Candidates must be able to lift 50 pounds. A Commercial Driver's License is preferred, but not mandatory. Ability to drive manual transmission is also preferred, but not mandatory.

The City of Newport News is seeking an experienced and motivated leader to oversee Landscape Services, Athletic Fields, and Maintenance Operations within Parks Development, Operations, and Animal Services. This role provides strategic direction, operational oversight, and technical expertise to ensure safe, high‑quality, and well‑maintained City parks, athletic fields, rights‑of‑way, and landscaped areas.

Key Responsibilities:
• Manage and coordinate landscape, athletic field, and maintenance operations to meet departmental standards.
• Develop and implement strategic plans, policies, and operational procedures.
• Oversee maintenance, repair, and construction of parks, turf, trees, irrigation systems, and landscaped spaces.
• Identify safety concerns and operational gaps; implement corrective actions and improvement strategies.
• Supervise division managers and administrative staff, including hiring, performance management, and staff development.
• Support disciplinary processes through investigations, documentation, and coaching supervisors.
• Assist with annual operating and capital budgets, financial tracking, and purchasing.
• Oversee capital projects and resource management initiatives; coordinate with contractors and City departments.
• Respond to public inquiries and represent the department at meetings and community events.

Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture, Landscape Architecture, Arboriculture, Parks and Recreation, or a related field.
• 5–7 years of related experience, including 3–4 years of supervisory experience.
• Experience in landscaping or parks maintenance preferred.

Job Title: Nursery / Production Position

James River Nurseries is a full-service landscape company with ten to fifteen landscape crews and three to five hardscape crews. We do not sell to the public or re-wholesale plants to other nurseries or landscape companies.

Job duties would include but not limited to:

Assist our nursery team in all phases of nursery projects.

• Unloading trucks, checking invoices for accuracy & plant quality.
• Attend morning meetings to discuss lists to pull each day.
• Pulling plants for landscape crews and counting lists for accuracy.
• Running plant labels and tagging plants that arrive untagged and tagging sold plants for clients/jobs.
• Counting plants for inventory.
• Planting shrubs, perennials, and grasses in our growing facility.
• Mostly quarts, 1 gallon, three gallons and some 7 and 15 gallons.
• Tagging plants that are potted.
• General nursery maintenance.
• Fertilizing, watering, pruning, spacing, and weeding.
• Covering and uncovering greenhouses – seasonally.
• Building greenhouses when needed.
• Maintain the grounds (mowing and some weed eater work).
• IPM and some spraying.
• Driving and caring for nursery equipment. (ATV, tractors, nursery trucks, loader, mowers, etc.).
• Assist in maintaining Excel spreadsheets and Word documents.
• Pick-up plant orders from other nurseries.

Facilities Management at Old Dominion University is seeking candidates for Garden & Landscape

Technician, Landscape & Grounds (full-time, 12 month) position. This position will properly

maintain the landscape of the University to present a neat, clean and well maintained appearance.

This will include the performance of grounds maintenance, operate grounds maintenance

equipment such as truck with or without manual transmission, riding and push mowers, pesticide

application equipment, tractors, and small powered equipment. This will also include horticulture

• Strong Communication skills for coordinating with team members, vendors, and customers, and for providing clear instructions and feedback.
• Background in horticulture, landscaping, or related field; relevant certifications or coursework are beneficial.
• Ability to perform hands-on work in outdoor conditions, manage multiple priorities, and solve problems independently.
